       Annual Children's Events
Portsmouth Abbey Fun Days

The Community Service Program students at Portsmouth Abbey School host two "Fun Days" for the Star Kids students in the Newport area. The "Fall Fun Day" in October includes a pizza lunch, a visit to the equestrian center and pumpkin painting. In March, the Star Kids are invited to attend a "Dinner and Theater" evening. After a pasta dinner at the dining hall, the Star Kids attend the spring musical performance presented by the Abbey Players. Each Star Kids student is escorted by a Portsmouth Abbey School friend. Fun Days give Star Kids students positive experiences with role model high school students..

Skating with Santa
The St. George's High School Boys and Girls Hockey Teams host an annual Skating with Santa holiday party at St. George's Ice Rink. Each Hockey team member is matched with a Star Kid and helps them tie their skates and escorts them to the rink. With a little help and encouragement from the hockey team, all the Star Kids are ice skating by the end of the party! Ice skates are donated by the Newport Yachting Center. Each child receives a gift including a beautiful hat, scarf and mittens hand knitted for them by the Tiverton Senior Center Knitting and Quilting Volunteers. Parents, sponsors and mentors are also invited to attend.

End of the School Year Party
Each year Star Kids celebrates the end of another successful school year with a group event. A different event is held each year and the Star Kids have been the guests of the Carousel Family Fun Center in Fairhaven for miniature golf and roller skating, the Schooner Aurora for an afternoon sail in Newport and the Newport Gulls for a baseball game at Cardine's Field in Newport.
