Star Kids Star Gazing Soiree "Wishing on a
Star"
Over 150 supporters of the Star Kids Scholarship Program enjoyed
a special evening "Wishing On A Star" at the "Star Kids Star
Gazing Soiree" at the Carnegie Abbey Club on April 26, 2008.
Guests were greeted with champagne and mingled as they enjoyed
a cocktail party with live and silent auctions. Top auction
items included a one week stay in a private Key West home,
which sold for $7,500 and a Richard Grosvenor watercolor,
which sold for $2,500. Jewel tone semi-precious gems were
the sought after raffle prizes, which were awarded to the
lucky winners whose "tickets" were cubic zirconium stones
in black velvet drawstring bags. Lori Hogan of Portsmouth,
RI and Susie Hill of Newport, RI co-chaired the event. Star
Kids students were on hand to welcome the guests to the party.
$80,000 was raised. Generous corporate sponsorship of the
event will allow all proceeds to go directly to the educational
program of the Star Kids students.
Negley Flynn of the Negley Flynn Charitable Foundation was
recognized at the event in appreciation of her leadership
and support of the Star Kids Scholarship Program. Chuck Weeden,
a Star Kids student at Portsmouth Abbey School, spoke about
how Star Kids has influenced his education and life.
Fundraising Get Togethers
One of the most effective ways to spread the good news about
the Star Kids Scholarship Program is a
Get
Together at a private home. These one hour events have been
a great way to secure more sponsors for our students. In 2007-08
sponsors from Get Togethers were added to our list of stewards
pledging over $42,000 for the educational needs of Star Kids.
