Tutoring and After School Programs

Tutoring and after school programs are available to each Star Kids student. We work with each family to tailor the tutoring and after school program to each child. Tutors are matched with students who need additional academic help throughout the school year and summer. The one-on-one help makes a remarkable difference in their self confidence and progress. Tutors are arranged by school principals and meet after school.

Currently, Star Kids students are involved in after school programs including music lessons, dance, art lessons, sports (football, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, basketball, baseball, cross country and soccer) and extended day programs at their schools.

Our goal is to have each child find an after school activity that they like. Not only will these activities help broaden their background experiences and self confidence but will help them to build a resume for high school and college and may lead to leadership opportunities. Statistics show that children involved in team sports are more likely to stay out of trouble and are better able to work cooperatively as adults.

Summer Camps

Each interested Star Kid attended at least two weeks or more of summer learning and fun at the summer camps listed. We are grateful for the generous summer program scholarships awarded to our students. We encourage each child to try a variety of camp experiences over the course of their time with Star Kids. Our summer camps include Camp Cathedral, Norman Bird Sanctuary, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA of Metacomet, Newport Art Museum, SailNewport, Brantwood Camp in Peterborough, NH, All Saints Academy, Camp Cove at Battleship Cove, Nazarene Christian Academy, Rhode Island Football Academy, St. Michael's Day Camp, Pennfield School, Camp Ramleh, Jim Baron Basketball Camp, North Stonington Bible Church.

All of these programs have avenues for growth so the children can attend the programs annually and have the opportunity to increase their skills each year in a particular area if they so desire. In their teenage years there will be work opportunities as counselors and other leadership roles. Please contact Sue Petronello at spetronello@starkidsprogram.org or call (401)293-0676.
