       Students and Schools
Students
Students are enrolled between Kindergarten and Grade 4. We look for students who are willing to do their best in school, and parents who value education and are willing to make the extra effort necessary in private schools. Parents agree to get their children to school on time, supervise homework and projects, and provide lunch and transportation. The parents choose the school they would like their child to attend.

In 2011-2012 school year:

Newport County - 63 students and Fall River - 21 students
Total of 84 students from 57 families, attending 27 schools.

New Bedford - 52 students from 28 families, attending 16 schools

Schools
Schools are selected on the basis of their willingness and demonstrated capacity to effectively educate at-risk children. These "non-public" schools include independent private schools, Catholic Diocesan schools and private Christian schools. Schools must possess the following qualities: a principal who understands and supports the mission, small size, safe environment, high expectations and a commitment to caring and character building. The child's caregiver chooses the school they would like their child to attend. Some of our kids will track back to their local public school due to improved opportunities for special education or family preference. These kids continue in Star Kids and are given opportunities for tutoring, after school programs, summer camps and mentoring.
