Annual Children’s Events – Building Community

Typically, five children’s events are held during the year for students and their families, however, the COVID pandemic has put a hold on our annual traditions for now. To maintain our close connection with students and families we have been holding regular Zoom “Chats” in place of our in-person events. While there is no substitute for fun, in-person gatherings, our  online connections have proved to be beneficial and something we plan to continue in the future.

Children’s events are an important part of our program for a number of reasons. Our outings provide an opportunity for the children and families to come together as a community. The students in our program feel they are a part of something important that inspires them to do their best. The gatherings also allow us to talk with the children throughout the year outside of school. We catch up on how they are doing and hear about their hopes for future academic plans. Mentors, sponsors and board members often attend these events and interact with the children.
