Educational Program
In addition to tuition assistance to private and parochial schools, Star Kids provides students with healthy outlets to round out their educational experience. Funding from our donors and foundations allows our Star Kids to attend enriching after-school programs, summer camps, as well as receive mentoring and tutoring as needed.
After-School Programs and Tutoring
After-school programs and tutoring are available to each Star Kids student. We work with each family to tailor the tutoring and after-school program to each child. Tutors are matched with students who need additional academic help throughout the school year and summer. The one-on-one help makes a remarkable difference in their self-confidence and progress.
Star Kids students are involved in after-school programs including music lessons, dance, art lessons, sports (football, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, basketball, baseball, cross country and soccer) and extended day programs at their schools.
Our goal is to have each child find an after-school activity that they like. These activities help broaden their foster social development and broaden their horizons. These experiences will help also them build a resume for high school, college and future leadership opportunities. Statistics show that children involved in team sports and extra-curricular activities are more likely to stay out of trouble and are better able to work cooperatively as adults.
Summer Camps
Star Kids students receive funding each year to explore a summer camp of their choose. Thanks to the generosity of our community partners, our students are also offered full-scholarships or financial aid to area camps which allow for multiple weeks of camp experiences.

Mentor Program
Mentors are role models, provide guidance, and add a little fun to a child’s life. Students seven years old and older are eligible to be mentored. Mentor pairs meet at school the first year. After the first year mentors spend time with their mentees in various activities meant to help broaden the child’s horizons. These activities range from knitting lessons to visiting museums and going whale watching. Studies have shown that children who are mentored are less likely to engage in “risky” behavior such as smoking, drinking, and drugs and are more likely to stay in school. Statistics also show that a child is more likely to succeed if they know that someone is interested in their success.
